The Whyalla Dial and Noon Mark
There's a new dial and Noon Mark in Whyalla, a steel town which is the third most populous city after Adelaide and Mount Gambier in the Australian state of South Australia. It is a seaport some 238 miles (383 km) from Adelaide which is located on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula at 33.0333° S, 137.5667° E.
Designed by Margaret Folkard and John Ward of Sundials Australia the installation includes a globe that represents the origins of the diverse ethnic population of Whyalla, an Equatorial Dial and finally a Noon Mark, all commissioned by the Rotary Club who, with the local Council, have had it placed close to the sea front. See these pictures of it during installation, in temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius! Click on any image for a larger version.
